Chest Pain

In this scenario, you are called to evaluate an adolescent in the Emergency Department for severe chest/epigastric pain, headache, and emesis. The patient is a 15-year-old previously healthy male who developed fever, nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, cough, and malaise 1 week ago. He was seen by his PMD and started on anti-reflux medications. He initially started to feel better but over the past 2 days developed dyspnea, chest pain, intermittent productive cough, and has been unable to sleep. Learners must perform needed assessments and interventions and finally admit the patient to the CTICU.

– Recognize abnormal findings and respond with appropriate interventions
– Send initial labs
– Communicate effectively with pediatric cardiologist
– Admit patient to CTICU for further management
