Cynthia Bennet is a 34-year-old African American female with a history of type 1 diabetes mellitus, end-stage renal disease, and hemodialysis. She was admitted to the emergency department for a fever and was subsequently admitted to the medical-surgical unit for evaluation and treatment of a urinary tract infection (UTI). Cynthia returns from hemodialysis having received the first dose of IV ampicillin from a dialysis nurse. During this scenario, learners must assess, prioritize, and manage care for this patient.
