Aggressive Behavior Management

In this case, the learners approach a soldier who was in an enclosed space containing a fire. Physical exam clearly shows burns, soot and blistering on the face, neck, and chest. Patient is in moderate distress due to pain. Primary survey should be performed but early recognition of impending airway compromise should lead to intubation before secondary survey is complete. Once intubated, the learner will have to deal with ventilator management and a high pressure alarm. Proper post intubation sedation in this burn patient will also be important.

Learning Objectives:

Quickly recognize impending airway compromise, manage ventilator, and react appropriately to a high pressure alarm.
