Case starts in the emergency department. There is an obviously pregnant mom (Deborah Crowley from ELS #18?) who is screaming in pain. If OBGYN is paged they are on the way, but due to weather(snowstorm) they will not be there anytime soon. Delivery becomes imminent, and mom gives birth to a baby who has poor tone, and low heart rate. The birth happens by fading from delivery to the learner being at baby warmer. If the learner follows proper NRP giving first PPV, then intubation, then chest compressions and epinephrine, the baby recovers. If this is not followed, the baby becomes pulseless and does not recover.
1. Recognize imminent delivery and prepare room.
2. Know and follow NRP algorithm.
3. Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with entire team and family.
