PALS

9 year old Hispanic male without any prior known medical history is brought in by EMS after collapsing during PE. Brought into the ED by EMS. Patient enters ventricular tachycardia in the ED and learners need to resuscitate following PALS algorithm. Mother is also present and learners need to communicate care with mother while following PALS algorithms to resuscitate the patient.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Perform a focused history and physical examination on a pediatric patient presenting with syncope
2. In a timely manner, recognize and implement interventions required to avoid cardiopulmonary arrest in a pediatric patient with unstable ventricular tachycardia
3. Recognize and perform effective respiratory management in a pediatric patient presenting in cardiac arrest
4. Demonstrate effective multidisciplinary communication during pediatric resuscitation
5. Identify cardiac rhythms that require synchronized cardioversion and/or defibrillation
