SANE II - Informed Consent and Patient Confidentiality

24 year old patient with chief complaint of sexual assault is triaged and placed in a room for evaluation. The patient stated, “I was raped 4 nights ago” and has complained of vaginal soreness, and she is requesting a rape kit. The goal of this scenario is for the nurse to be put in a situation where they have to explain the options for reporting and evidence collection to a patient who is having a difficult time deciding what option is the best choice. The patient will ask lots of questions about the consent process and medical-forensic exam.
