We are proud to announce the completion of a U.S. Air Force-funded project to develop enhanced VR medical simulation training capabilities for battlefield tactical combat casualty care (TCCC). The focus of these enhancements was on increasing the flexibility and repeatability of our training scenarios for both military and civilian medical practitioners. The resulting training capability, the SimX VALOR VRMSS, is now available for purchase and is in operational use at dozens of DOD installations.

The project specifically focused on enhancing the existing SimX Virtual Reality Medical Simulation System (VRMSS) to increase its utility significantly across DOD medical training. Other goals for the research program included enhancing medical realism, supporting customizable capabilities at runtime based on the learner population, dynamically configuring environments to enhance the spectrum of psychosocial realism, and including scenario customization capabilities that will help meet the training objectives of both educators and learners.

“The mission impact [of this project] will be increased overall medical capability for combat casualty care. These capabilities are critical for ensuring the highest level of medical care provided by our forces as they prepare for the continuing increase in operational tempo, near-peer competition, and joint operations.”

The developed capabilities are also available for commercial use to support civilian medical simulation training across the spectrum of health professionals, with enhancements delivered to hundreds of our existing customers including nursing schools, physician training programs, EMS providers, and many other users across the globe.

All enhancements leverage the adaptation of the VRMSS for the new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chipset using the HTC Vive Focus 3 headset platform, which enables significantly enhanced graphical realism while maintaining portability, wireless operation, and seamless co-located multiplayer simulation.
