Scenario Description

In this scenario, the learner must treat a 38-year-old female with a historyof bipolar disorder who is admitted overnight in the behavioral unit of the hospital due to suicidal ideation. The patient exhibits rapid and pressured speech, fear, and despair in their voice. The learner should use open ended questions and fully assess the patient’s suicide risk. Throughout this scenario, the learner should adequately address and validate the patient’s concerns. They will ultimately develop an appropriate safety plan along with the patient to mitigate further risk.

– Establish a supportive environment for a therapeutic conversation with the patient
– Use open ended questions and conduct a suicide assessment
– Develop a safety plan and discuss suicide precautions
