Scenario Description

This scenario leads learners through an encounter with a patient in active labor. As the case progresses, learners must recognize that the patient is experiencing shoulder dystocia and is in active labor/imminent delivery. Following successful delivery, the infant will require basic assessment and care, and the mother will require care for postpartum hemorrhage.

Learning Objectives

1. Assess an obstetric patient and recognize active labor/imminent delivery

2. Identify the signs of shoulder dystocia and deploy the HELPERR mnemonic

3. Demonstrate the steps of assisting in a vaginal delivery

4. Identify postpartum hemorrhage and treat it according to AMC patient care guidelines
