The Virtual Manikin™ Series

For decades, patient manikins have evolved to incorporate varying degrees of sophistication paired with back-end technology to enhance the simulation experience. While effective, they require a significant initial investment, as well as comprehensive staff training and maintenance costs. Rather than continuing to support physical manikins, SimX has successfully replaced physical manikin training with virtual patient encounters through the SimX Virtual Manikin Series

The SimX Virtual Manikin Series is a customizable collection of patient encounters that allow educators to select patient avatars, environments, and scenario outcomes to create unique simulation sessions. VR training requires less maintenance, equipment, and manpower than traditional manikin simulation. Unlike physical silicone manikins, the Virtual Manikin can be launched in less than 5 minutes in any space available.

All scenarios in the Virtual Manikin Series can be customized in real-time to meet the needs of educators and learners. With the Virtual Manikin, moderators can customize and control:

  • Patient vitals
  • Patient animations
  • Lab and imaging results
  • Physical exam findings
  • The final diagnosis
  • Patient & NPC dialogue

Two Virtual Manikin scenarios are currently available and usable for both U.S. and European learners:

  • Pediatric Respiratory: In this virtual manikin scenario, moderators can select a patient from two different avatar options in either a hospital or Ambulance setting.
  • Chest Pain: Moderators can select a patient from 6 different avatar options in either an emergency room or Ambulance setting.

Scenario Preset Feature comes standard on all Virtual Manikins where moderators can create and save custom patient findings, diagnoses, vitals, and patient animations.

Presets are saved to the moderators’s SimX profile and can be reused for more efficient training sessions. Each Virtual Manikin scenario also comes with SimX presets for quick and easy simulation training based on realistic patient encounters.
