Virtual Reality Simulated Patient Encounters

Reset

Scenario Description

A 37-year-old female is arriving at the postpartum unit after delivering a male via vaginal delivery 4 hours ago at 38 and 2 weeks of gestation. The patient’s labor was complicated by maternal preeclampsia, and she received magnesium sulfate during labor. Learners will have the opportunity to assess and manage a patient experiencing postpartum hemorrhage.

This scenario has been designed for a moderatorless experience.

Learning Objectives

1. Learners will recognize the early signs of postpartum hemorrhage.
2. Learners will demonstrate evidence-based interventions for postpartum hemorrhage.
3. Learners will model effective communication by using the SBAR framework to communicate the patient’s deteriorating status to the interprofessional team.
4. Learners will prioritize nursing care activities to address the most urgent and life-threatening signs of hemorrhage and hypovolemic shock.
5. Learners will apply to patient safety protocols by accurately quantifying blood loss (QBL) and using two-patient identifiers to prevent errors during medication and fluid administration.
