Cellulitis and PICC Line Care Skills

Scenario Description

A middle aged male is being treated for cellulitis requiring administration of intravenous antibiotics through a PICC line. The Learner(s) must assess the patient and follow medication administration orders. The Learner(s) will also perform a PICC line dressing change procedure which includes, cleaning the area, monitoring for movement of the catheter, and re-securing the catheter while maintaining a sterile technique. After reporting certain findings to the medical team and appropriate escalation, the patient will decompensate.

Learning Objectives

– Administer proper oral and intravenous medication
– Perform a PICC line dressing change
– Assess the patient and recognize signs of decompensation. Escalate appropriately
