Scenario Description

A six-year-old boy presents to a community ED BIBA with mom in acute distress. Learners must use their PALS training to perform an initial, primary, and secondary assessment and effectively manage the patient’s clinical condition. This case has two different clinical presentations for the learner to address appropriately. The moderator will have the ability to choose which scenario to initiate at the beginning of the case.

 

Learning Objectives

Applies the systematic approach to life-threatening conditions learned in PALS Training course

– Recognizes signs and symptoms of respiratory distress caused by upper or lower airway obstruction

– Performs correct initial interventions for upper or lower airway obstruction

– Discusses the importance of obtaining expert consultation and initiating transfer of care of a patient who fails to respond to initial interventions
