Heat Stroke Pain Management in an Adult

The patient is a 19-year-old male patient admitted to the ED for dehydration and fluid/electrolyte imbalances due to heat exhaustion. The patient has been stabilized but the nurse reports that he was complaining of general fatigue & a mild headache. He was given acetaminophen 650 mg PO about 3 hours ago. Learners will use proper pain/discomfort assessments to determine interventions and medications to relieve pain.

d. Administers medication using proper medication administration techniques/procedures.

a. Provides patient comfort options.
b. Provides interventions as needed.

4. Learner(s) will demonstrate proper medication follow-up.
a. Documents on medication administration record.
b. Communicates with the care team.
c. Assesses effectiveness of medication & interventions provided to decrease pain/discomfort level.
