Scenario Description

Samuel is a 15-year-old male arriving on a Wednesday evening to the Anger and Substance Abuse Clinic. Samuel has been in the foster care system for thirteen years and with his current family for a year. The learner will have the chance to speak to the foster parents alone and to elicit a recent history of unprovoked angry outbursts. The learner must then engage the patient, de-escalate as needed, establish rapport, and get further history. The simulation then has a 12 hour time jump to the next morning where the learner must again interview the patient, present the drug screen results, and use therapeutic communication to further explore his history.
